Quest’anno i partecipanti al World Press Photo 2019 sono stati ben 4738, provenienti da 129 Paesi per un totale di 78.801 immagini in gara.
Come ha detto Lars Boering, Managing Director della World Press Photo Foundation:
“Today the World Press Photo Foundation presents the best pictures and productions contributing to the past year of visual journalism, and with them, the storiesì that matter.”
I fotografi selezionati, e quindi finalisti, sono 43. Di questi il 32% sono donne, un significativo passo avanti rispetto all’edizione del 2018 (erano solo il 12%) segno che anche nel mondo del fotogiornalismo, solitamente permeato nella quasi totalità da figure maschili, qualcosa sta cambiando.
Il World Press Photo of the Year sarà conferito in data 11 aprile ad Amsterdam, durante la cerimonia di premiazione nella quale saranno annunciati anche i vincitori delle singole categorie. Nel 2018 abbiamo avuto l’onore di poter partecipare alla premiazione che ha visto Ronaldo Schemidt premiato come fotografo dell’anno, oltre che poter visionare tutte le altre immagini arrivate sul podio.
